Revisiting social networks

Dear readers,

As an aware human being, I cannot resist myself from not addressing the war and the dozens of lives that are lost everyday. It would have been nice to have a piece on that in this issue. I am reminded of these lines from a recent film:

“Who am I to lie in a feather bed while dead babies lie in a ditch?”

–Poor Things (Pauvres creatures) dir Yorgos Lanthimos

This is the thirty-sixth and last issue of the TSEconomist board 2023-24. The global unrest especailly since the Palestine issue, and the attacks by the Houthis on the Red Sea, came to our mind when discussing the new issue. Topics akin to fragility of globalsation culminated in naming the theme as ‘Rethinking Globalisation’.

We begin this issue with three interesting articles on our Spotlight Theme: discussing the impact of global supply chains in the Middle East, concerts as a part of global value chains and the misery of the poor in the global era.

We continue in the next section with two articles from surge pricing in selling beers to low carbon food systems. Two very relevant ideas.

The On Campus section features a teaser write-up to the results of an Eco-Anxiety Survey we organised with the TSE Mag team a couple of months back. Read on to the TSE Mag Spring issue for details of our interview with an IAST expert. This section also features the winners of TSEconomist Teaching Awards, that we announced at the TSE Gala 2024.

Finally we end with some Gap Year, M2 Choice and an Alumni Report in the Professional Section.

As the outgoing board member, I thank the TSE admin, faculty and other members in their support for organising the magazine. I wish the new board members the very best. I am confident that they will do a stellar job.

We wish you a good read!
