Nicolas Le Gall Data Scientist At Aqsone
As of today, I am a Data Scientist. This is my main role in Aqsone. So, I help our customers to exploit their data at the best. It goes from animating workshops to gathering all the needs and expectations to deliver value through the whole panel that Data Science and AI offer (from dashboards to complex models delivering interactive results).
On top of that, I am leading a team of 4 people working on 3 different missions. So, I try to give them as much support as needed to ensure the quality of the deliveries. I am also assisting them developing as much personally as professionally. Finally, I am responsible for some transverse projects such as council activity within Aqsone.
What was your path from Master’s graduation to this current post, and what are the key elements that helped to make your choice?
I graduated with a Master’s degree in Statistics & Econometrics. Without any offer after my apprenticeship, I looked for a position as a Data Scientist within the Toulouse area. Aqsone offered me the opportunity to start my journey. Joining Aqsone meant joining a very small firm of only 15 people, but here I found an environment where I was able to grow. I found a place where I can be part of history and where my voice counts. Since the beginning of our collaboration, we have continuously grown, discovering new worlds and evolving through our success and our difficulties. Being able to have short, mid and long-term objectives with Aqsone is something that I cheer for and that I value. I have been here for 3 years, but I am sure that much more is coming.
According to your professional experience, what are the most useful skills you obtained during your degree?
Surprisingly, I would not mention some hard skills. Not that the TSE didn’t provide me with hard skills but I learnt more about how to think than how to do during my degree. And this is my most useful skill. We are often confronted with challenges we have never faced before, and so we need to know how to think and innovate in this situation.
What advice would you like to give to the TSE students, or to the school?
I would recommend to the student to keep their mind as wide and open as possible. It is really important. If you have the opportunity to do a gap year, take it to enlarge your horizons. I would also advise them to challenge everything, I mean always challenge yourself and what is around you. I think that it is the key to always progress.
To the school, I would encourage them to continue building bridges between students and professionals through different kinds of events like the BND, conferences or alumni meet-ups. And I would also recommend continuing efforts to build a strong Alumni community, it is important for everyone.
